Kathryn’s Laundry Shop Business Expands to 14 Branches, Providing Jobs and Services to the Community
Name of Business: Laundry Lounge
Nature of Business: Laundry and Dry Cleaning Services
Country: Philippines
Resigning from a job that pays you well is a leap of faith, but Kathryn recognized that with their move to a new province, she wouldn’t be able to keep her job as a cabin crew member. As she considered what to do next, she felt prompted to start a laundry business in her community.
Starting a laundromat became an answer to prayer as she was able to pay herself a considerable salary and it was the first of its kind in her neighborhood. As laundry shops began to pop up in the area, she and her husband developed a competitive advantage by creating their own detergent. This also helped them cut costs on supply-chain expenses.
Kathryn has since expanded her small laundry business into 14 branches. Her hard work is proof that Academy training can help individuals benefit their community, as well as sustain their family.
To her peers Kathryn shares, “As an entrepreneur, you must be creative and explore many ideas. . . .Constantly expose yourself to new learning and opportunities! Exercise an open mind.” Kathryn is a great example of this.
Like many other Academy members, Kathryn continues to grow and better her surroundings. Currently, Kathryn serves in her church community and as a district leader of the senior service missionaries for BYU Pathway. Additionally, Kathryn has chosen to pursue higher education and is enrolled online at BYU, Idaho. We wish her well in her studies!
We are thrilled to see Kathryn and thousands of other Academy members apply Academy training to their situations and use their developed resources for good.
